December Sweeties

Lots and lots of SWEET readers this month! I am so proud of how hard the students have been working on their sight words...makes my heart smile because I know it is helping them become better readers.

O' Christmas Tree

We returned from our snow days just in time for our first field trip. On Wednesday, December 11th we went to Charleston to visit a Christmas tree farm. It was very cold, but a really great trip:) The trees were still covered with snow, which made them absolutely beautiful! We took a hayride through the trees, had wheelbarrow races, drank hot chocolate, fed some farm animals, watched a pig race, and found a candy cane tree! Afterwards, we had lunch at the park and played on the snowy playground!!! Fun times in first grade:)

Oops!

So I had a big ole list of SWEET readers that I needed to get posted, but when I went to upload my pictures, I realized that my camera disc was full! Oops...so now I don't have their SWEET treat pictures to post:(
Have no fear, I have weeded out all of the old pictures and now have plenty of room for new pictures of SWEET readers! So sorry if your little one's picture didn't make it up, I'll make sure to get them on their next SWEET treat:)

Dem Bones!

During the month of October, we learned about the skeletal system. The students picked up lots of neat facts and information about bones from our science videos and non-fiction texts. At the end of the unit, the students wrote an informational text showcasing all the new schema they had gained about our skeletal system. They also made a Q-tip skeleton to go along with their writing. They looked great in the hallway:)

Here's what the finished product looked like...

Halloween Bash!

On Thursday, October 31st we celebrated Halloween with all things orange! We did lots of fun Halloween activities throughout the day. However, the real bash began at 1:30 with a costume parade! After the parade, we had spider races and the students had a blast! Sad to say that in all the excitement, I didn't get any pictures:( Once the races were over, it was time to feast...we had nachos, orange soda, cookies, and CANDY of course!!!! We wrapped up the party with a goody bag stuffed with treats and a special book from Mrs. Morrow:) It was a crazy, busy, FUN day...can't wait til the next party:0

There was only 1 rule: Do NOT carve or cut the pumpkin. I love doing this activity each year because theypumpkins always turn out so great:)

Fall Festival

Saturday, October 26th was our annual Fall Festival King and Queen program. This year Laurie and Trey were selected to represent our class and they did a fabulous job. The students did a great job filling our money jar up! It was so funny watching the kid's reactions each day as they would check the progress of our jar:) Thanks to all the parents, grandparents, and family members that contributed. This is a great fundraiser for our first grade class. All the money that we collected will be used for first grade field trips and activities throughout the year.
Now, back to our lovely queen and handsome king...Laurie and Trey! Aren't they snazzy!!!
