The Polar Express

The last full week of school was jam-packed with a whole lot of Polar Express FUN! We read the story and did lots of fun activities, but Friday was the best day because we wore our pajamas to school and watched the movie on our Promethean board.  That afternoon was our 2nd Quarter reward trip, which just happened to be a train ride with Santa! Our class had the most students attending, so I got to go too:) We sang Christmas carols, drank hot chocolate, ate lunch, and visited with Santa Claus!!!!
We love wearing our pajamas to school - so comfy and cozy!

Live Love and Learn

I have a very heavy heart tonight...as I sit and reflect on all of the learning, laughing, and loving that went on in our classroom last week, I am reminded of the gift that I have been given. I get to see 16 smiling faces rush into my classroom excited and ready to learn something new each day. I thank the Lord that he has entrusted me with His beautiful children, all representing unique personalities, abilities, needs, and dreams! Not just today, but every day, I am thankful for the opportunity to be a part of each and every one of these precious little lives. I am determined, now more than ever, to make each moment count. We always need to remember to count our blessings!

Field Trip Fun

We went on our first field trip on Friday, December 7th and we had a BLAST! The whole first grade went to the Fort Smith Malco Theater to watch Rise of the Guardians. It was a great movie and the kids loved it! Once the movie started, I didn't hear a peep from the kids, except for the sounds of munching popcorn:)

After the movie we went to the park for a picnic lunch and playtime. It was a great day!

We Are Readers!

I am just amazed at how much progress the students have made in their reading skills. I mean, they are reading EVERYTHING! It is just so much fun to see them read a book independently and most imporantly their love of reading is growing each day:) It warms my heart and makes me soooooo proud! Here are a few pictures of the students budding reading. They love to read with their friends!

Pumpkin Burial

Last week we had to have a burial for "Jack" He was our class jack-o-lantern that we carved on Halloween.  The kids noticed that he really wasn't looking too good and informed me that we had to do something with him, so today we sent him off for a long winter's nap.  We stuffed "Jack" with lots of classroom items to keep him occupied for the winter (paper, pencil, marker, snacks, etc).  I told the kids that we would dig him up in the spring to see if he was looking any better. It's going to be a LONG winter, but I know the kids will be really excited to see him next spring:)

Farewell Jack...We'll see you next spring:)
