Pinkalicious

On Monday, March 11th, we went to the Alma Performing Arts Center to see Pinkalicious. This is one of our favorite read alouds and one of the first books that the kids look for in our classroom library! The kids were SO excited about this field trip, and let me tell you, we were not disappointed!!!

Afterwards, we went back to the Dinosaur Park and had a picnic lunch and play time. The weather was not very cooperative....it was windy and COLD! The kids still had a good time even though their lips were purple:)

Schlopp, Beautiful Schlopp!!

Have you ever had Schlopp before? Sounds a little odd, right? Well it's straight out of the Dr. Seuss book, Oh, the Thinks You Can Think.

I love how open-minded the kids are about trying new things! Don't get me wrong, they weren't quite sure about it and wanted to know exactly what was in it. However, after they tried it all they cared about was getting more! After enjoying some schlopp, we used our class data to create a graph. This was a great review on using tally marks to create a bar graph! I love when learning can be yummy and fun at the same time:)





Green Eggs and Ham

This week was all about Dr. Seuss in honor of his birthday on March 2nd. It was a wacky, crazy week full of lots of fun! On Tuesday, we read Green Eggs and Ham. After reading, we talked about the real message behind the story. I was pleasantly surprised at how many students picked up on the idea of trying new things before forming a negative opinion:) Then, we got to EAT green eggs and ham. I left it up to each student if they wanted to try it and then we created a picture graph with our results. We found out that most students liked green eggs and ham:)

Compound Love Bugs!

During the month of February, we learned about compound words. It didn't take long for the students to start finding compound words EVERYWHERE!!! We found them in our read alouds, poems, reading groups, even on signs around school:) Around Valentine's Day, the students made Compound Love Bugs to demonstrate their knowledge of how compound words are formed. They turned out really cute!
