Yummy Apples

Last week we learned about the life of Johnny Appleseed. The students participated in numerous apple activities throughout the week; however, the apple taste test was by far their favorite:) It was my favorite too! Earlier in the week, we listed as many apple foods/products that we could think of. Friday afternoon, we sampled some of those items (caramel apples, applejacks, applesauce, and apple juice) and created a class graph revealing our favorite apple product. New Year of Sweet Readers!

Every year I stress the importance of learning sight words to the students because they are essential for firsties.  It is amazing how their reading and writing skills take off once the students have a firm foundation of sight words. In order to get the kids excited about learning so many sight words, I bribe reward them with SWEET treats.  Every time they master a set of sight words, they earn a special SWEET treat! It's a win-win situation:) Here are our first SWEET readers of the 2014 school year.

1st Grade Readers

The first month of school has flown by! We have been working hard on routines and procedures the last few weeks and I think the kiddos are finally starting to get the hang of first grade:) Here are a few quick snaps of the students practicing buddy reading.

How Could It Already Be May???

Where has the year gone??? We've been so busy working and learning that time has flown by:) As usual, I am extremely behind in posting things, so I am going to do my best to share as much as possible in the coming weeks. So, first things first, I need to get caught up on all of my SWEET readers....since January. YIKES! I really have been slacking:(

January's SWEET Readers!

We were able to squeeze in three semi-normal weeks of school before the snow blew in again. We have been battling varying types of sickness for the last couple of weeks, but that hasn't stopped them from reaching their sight word goals. Check out all these SWEET readers from the month of January:)
